Purpose of the National Thali Week (NTW)
The National Thali Week (NTW) website is dedicated to promoting and honoring the rich culinary traditions of South Asia by inviting individuals to explore and appreciate the diverse array of South Asian cuisines served on a traditional thali. Held annually during the second week of January, NTW is designed to accomplish the following objectives:
- Cultural Discovery and Celebration: Encourage people to experience and enjoy a wide range of South Asian dishes on a single platter, showcasing the unique flavours and customs from various regions across South Asia.
- Health and Wellness: Offer individuals a chance to adopt healthy eating habits through a focus on vegetarian meals, particularly beneficial after the indulgence of the December holiday season. This initiative advocates for a balanced diet and highlights the advantages of plant-based nutrition.
- Community Involvement and Support: Cultivate a sense of community and generosity by inspiring participants to organize fundraising events of all sizes during NTW. These gatherings aim to support local charities, allowing people to celebrate with friends and family while contributing to significant causes.
By embracing these goals, the NTW website aspires to facilitate cultural exchange, advocate for healthy eating, and strengthen community ties, all while celebrating the vibrant culinary diversity of South Asia.
